Project(s)	Rulership in Northeast Asia. An outgrowth of the Reischauer Lectures, which I delivered at Harvard University in spring 1994; in this project I propose to examine the historical evolution of a northeast Asian tradition of political and social organization that affected polities in ancient and premodern Korea and Japan as well as the Qitan Liao, Jurchen Jin, and Manchu Qing dynasties in Chinese history.
