Research Interests

I write about the social and environmental impact of energy extraction in the mid-Atlantic and Appalachia, especially concerning natural gas drilling and how it has affected rural Pennsylvania. I also examine energy history in global context. My current projects include the book based my dissertation “We Didn’t Start the Fire: Natural Gas Drilling in Pennsylvania Before the Marcellus Boom,” and another work on energy in world history.
