Patryk Reid joins us as three-year post doc sponsored by the Center for Russian and East European Studies. Reid is a 2016 History PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana, whose research explores the material and environmental dimensions of the USSR in Central Asia by analyzing the introduction of transportation and commodity chains in the challenging terrain of Tajikistan. He uncovers how local nature and transnational logistics affected the constitution of a Stalin-era built-environment and economic life using imported people, animals, and capital.

His teaching will include the REES undergraduate certificate research capstone.
