History Spring 2024: HIST 2023

HIST 2023: Historical Methods and Approaches, Prof. Mari Webel

The purpose of this required first-year course is twofold: First, it offers a broad introduction to the diverse sources and research methods used by historians, and to the range of spatial and temporal scales that shape historical work. Second, with an eye to both the M.A. essay and the dissertation overview, the course provides students with tools to craft a project, conduct research, and analyze various types of historical sources. Students will be given the opportunity to conduct hands-on work with primary sources. The skills developed in this course will prepare students to do research in archives and other repositories.
