In Slavery’s Wake: Making Black Freedom in the World immerses visitors in the freedom-making practices of Black communities navigating both the histories and the legacies of racial slavery and colonialism.
The University of Pittsburgh Department of History traveled to Washington DC to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Students and faculty from three of our History classes: Public History, Comparative Slavery, and Slavery and Abolition Capstone took part in the trip. Keila Grinberg was an integral part of the production of this important exhibit that will run for the next 6 months before embarking on a World Tour. Grinberg worked with teams from Brazil, South Africa, Senegal, Belgium, and England and the exhibit will spend time in each of these countries.
The trip was sponsored by UCIS: Center for African Studies, Center for Latin American Studies, Global Studies Center, Center for European Studies and Center for Ethnic Studies Research.
