I study the process of animal knowledge production and natural history in the Qing court during its height (1661-1795) by focusing on the compilation, translation, and application of Qing natural history texts. By incorporating multilingual and multicultural primary sources from Qing imperial memorials, the letter correspondences of Christian Jesuits residing in China, and others, I aim to integrate the Qing production of natural knowledge into a global framework of information exchange in the early modern world.
